About our project

Image
ABOUT OUR PROJECT Our project this round of ESLP is big. We decided to task ourselves with repainting the school shed. While we were looking for our next project we saw the poorly painted shed was in bad condition and we wanted to make it look fresh and new. We wanted our theme to be science related and to be a simple design to paint, so we decided to paint the solar system. The planets are artfully coloured circles, and the stars are white circles carefully placed on the dark blue sky.

Activity Log 2

ACTIVITY LOG 2 After painting the base, trim, and stars on the back of the shed, we moved on to sketching the outline of our design ideas on the side of the shed along with the front. To keep with our solar system theme, we decided to paint WGHS in stars on the front of the shed, and a rocket at the top of the shed. Ella and Kelsey  wrote out the individual letters in pencil on the doors, and then Ella wentover those outlines by putting white paint on the back of the paint brushes, and dotting different sizes of stars. While Ella and Kelsey were working on the letters, Natalia worked on drawing the outline of the rocket. When Natalia was finished with the outline of the rocket, Kelsey started painting it and Natalia helped Ella with the letters and did more trim work. Ella and Natalia finished the front of the shed going to the side to help Mallory. Kelsey continued to work on the rocket until it was done, letting Natalia do the flames at the base of the rocket. ...

Activity Log 1

ACTIVITY LOG 1 Painting was a one day project, starting with covering up the existing murals. The group decided to go with a space theme because it is science related, and colorful without needing too many different shapes for the designs. The front would have WGHS painted in stars and a rocket ship up top, while the side would have the sun and all the planets, and the back would be stars. We had 2 gallons of paint- one a dark blue for the base and one white for the trim and stars. With the rollers we were able to do two/three layers of blue paint and one layer for the trim (because it was already white). This took the group about the first hour and a half because of all the time it took to paint in between the wood panels in the cracks and around the trim being careful not to get blue paint all over the white trim. While Natalia, Kelsey and Mallory were finishing up on the last side of the shed with the base paints and trim, Ella got started on the ba...

Budget Statement

BUDGET STATEMENT Materials Cost per 1 Number of objects Total Acrylic Paints $1.69 18 $30.42 Gallon paint $45.00 2 $90.00 Roller Brushes $14.00 4 $56.00 Brushes $1.30 15 $19.50 Total: $195.92          We already owned majority of the materials we used to paint the shed. The only supplies we needed to purchase were the gallon paints and the acrylic paints. However, when Kelsey went to purchase the paint, the manager at Sherwin-Williams insisted on donating the paint, because it was a a school project. All she asked for as payment was a picture of the finished shed. We greatly appreciated this gesture, as it saved us a lot of money. The paint rollers as well were already owned by Kelsey and Ella, and also the brushes by Mallory.
